Why would you need a pelvic ultrasound for the ovaries vs. an abdominal one?

Does your bladder need to be full or empty for an abdominal ultrasound to see your ovaries?

I think the LVOT VTI measurement is not correct - interrogation angle is not paralell with the flow direction, see 3:19
